Get to know your farmers
My name is Shaunis Sakell. Growing up on Howe Island, I used to spend every day at the farm down the road from where I lived riding horses, bailing hail, mucking stalls etc. I loved it. I would literally go home and draw out my dream farm that one day I only hoped I could have.
When I met my partner, Gerry Lyman I actually started to envision the possibility of fulfilling my goal of running my own farm.
Gerry and his family have been running a small scale homestead here on the farm for over 5 years. The first time I came to the farm, I immediately had feelings of nostalgia, happiness and excitement and started to visualize my dream come true.
Having worked in the food and beverage industry for over 10 years, when Covid-19 hit, it was time for a change. By combining my customer service experience, love for farming, and a business marketing diploma from St. Lawrence College - I decided to launch Hinchinbrooke Hills Farms
We use circular farming methods, using our animals to compliment the natural environment and create a balance on the farm where everything has a purpose. We are honest, family oriented, dedicated homesteaders hoping to leave the land better than we found it and continuously educating ourselves and others along the way.
